BEST STORY WHEN YOU WERE A RIVER RAFTING GUIDE: Once on the Clear Creek in Colorado, my fellow guide got stuck in a rapid known as “the box rapid” (which has now been rerouted so you can’t get pinned like he did). We were all parked on shore waiting for him, while a crane operator from the highway construction crew swung over his hook to help unpin him. This has never happened before in Clear Creek whitewater history, which is right next to i70.

Another would be from Wisconsin on the Wolf River. The outfitter we used put me and my friend from college in a separate boat, from my mother and little bro who were unexperienced. As soon as we headed downriver there were class iii-iv rapids up ahead. Fortunately mom and my bro got pinned. This gave me enough time to paddle back up river to them, ditch our boat on shore, and guide them to the other shore, which happened to be on the Gardener Dam Boy Scout Camp. Never knowing they existed prior, while retelling this story to our Priest, Father Dan Schuster, it turned out he had attended this camp as an Eagle Scout Chaplain! riverrun!

BEST BOARDING INSTRUCTOR STORY: Once I was plucked from the crowd, watching the women's Dew Tour halfpipe competition after work in Breck. They asked me to be a fan in the audience for Shaun White's Dew tour interview. Side-note: I got to play with his english bulldog which I have pictures to prove! However, I have never found the footage of this interview? I always wondered if they scrapped it because I started falling asleep (like in school, Kyrie Eleison!) because it was so warm and cozy in the interview booth. Whoopsie! (It was over an hour long and we weren’t allowed to move or make sounds! I couldn’t help it! It was so boring! I wanted to go ride outside, instead!) Tee hee!
